In 1960, a dog owner approached Grannick's Pharmacy seeking a solution for her dog's pre-show anxiety and coat-chewing behavior. Inspired by his background as a pharmacist, Irv Grannick experimented with various bitter flavorings until he developed a formula that worked. Initially providing the solution, known as "Bitter Apple," for free, the demand grew among dog enthusiasts, prompting Irv to commercialize it as "Grannick's Bitter Apple." Starting from his kitchen, the product line expanded into a comprehensive range of taste-deterrent grooming cosmetics for pets.
