The Blackwing 602's journey started in 1934, crafted by Eberhard Faber Pencil Company. It gained a devoted following among artists, including John Steinbeck, John Williams, and Quincy Jones. After changing hands, a machine failure led to its 1998 discontinuation, driving enthusiasts to seek out Blackwings at high prices. In 2008, California Cedar Products Company bought the Blackwing name and in 2011, released a close replica under Palomino, despite not retaining the original's graphite. It continues to be cherished by collectors and enthusiasts.
