Lift Every Voice

Gospel choirs are an integral part of the African American church culture, serving as a powerful tool for expressing faith, hope, joy, and gratitude. Through the ministry of music, these choirs provide a sense of connectedness, bringing people together through sound and voice. Renewing and restoring faith in the Almighty, filling listeners with the hope for a better tomorrow, and fortifying their spirit and body so that they can endure and overcome any existing struggles.

Gospel music and the choirs and musicians that create it are truly an integral part of the black church tradition. Around the world, gospel choirs inspire not only church congregations but also many others who are drawn in by its calming and uplifting sound. The melodies create an atmosphere of community, comfort, and celebration that is unparalleled.

Ernie Barnes pulls from this cherished church tradition to create this magnificent work of art depicting a church choir singing as the choir director leads them.
