The M1 Abrams, successor to the M60 series, was introduced by Chrysler in 1978, with production commencing in 1980. Manufactured by General Dynamics, it boasts advanced Chobham armor, making it the most protected US main battle tank. Its gas turbine engine, while smaller and easier to maintain than a diesel, has a higher fuel requirement. Equipped with thermal sights, a laser rangefinder, and a sophisticated gun stabilization system, the M1 delivers exceptional firepower, both day and night. In the 1991 Gulf War, it demonstrated its superiority by destroying Iraqi T-72s without any losses due to enemy fire.
