See condition guide below. Lightweight Tarp Condition Guide These surplus tarp covers are real, previously issued military gear, and because of that, the exact conditions of each item may vary. All of our surplus gear is graded in order to give you options and have a better understanding of your purchase and the expected quality of your product. Military gear is built well and used by soldiers in varying environments proving its quality. We hope that it serves you well in all of your outdoor endeavors. Grade 2 (Fair): What we call normal surplus. The gear is fully usable and shows normal signs of use but has a lot of life left. Some items may have stains, writing, color fading, repairs, and or surface rust on them. We found that pin holes does not affect the gears performance. Grade 3 (Acceptable): This gear has seen heavy use. The tarp may contain small pinhole spots, and the laminate coating on the underside may have peeled or has worn away in places. Each item has been screened for rips or tears. Grading Method: These tarps have definitely been used by the men and women in our military. Judging the condition is largely a subjective exercise, but I do try to apply a few metrics: 1) Anything with rips or tears longer than 3 inches are screened and tossed in the "trash" pile. These are not listed for sale. 2) Many of these tarps may have pin-hole sized holes in them. You can see them when held up to the light. I judge these as Condition 2 or 3, depending on how many pin holes I find. 3) If a tarp has two or more nickel-sized holes in it, I toss it in the "trash" pile. These are not listed for sale. 4) If there is only ONE nickel-sized hole, I'll patch it with duct tape and mark it as Condition 3. 5) The laminate underside is worn away or has peeled on many of these. If the laminate is still good on 50% or more of the tarp, I grade it Condition 2. Less than 50%, I consider as Condition 3. The USGI Issue Military Tarp is a main piece of field equipment with many benefits and uses. The lightweight tarp design can easily be packed, and its grommets, snaps, and tie outs make it easy for securing to trees creating a shelter or just keeping it in place. There are 8 grommets and 24 pairs of alternating male and female snaps around the perimeter of the outside edge. You can also snap the ends of two tarps together if you want a larger tarp.
