Book Two, The Widening Road, continues the Rubies Saga as Kaja's descendants search for happiness while journeying a road filled with clay and mire. Kaja Ericsen committed a sin of disobedience; her own daughter Marty follows in her mother's footsteps. What comes about because of these actions is the destruction of a child's life and a future filled with ambiguity and senseless pain. When Kaja Ericsen decided to ignore her parents' wishes she began a chain of tragedy that does not seem to be broken. After the loss of her children in Norway, Kaja put all her hopes and dreams into her daughter Marty. Again, those dreams soon become a nightmare of doubt and confusion. In Book One of the Rubies Family Saga we see Marty falling into the same pattern of deception as her mother, Kaja. That disobedience leads to the suffering of her daughter, Stacey. In Book Two, The Widening Road, we see Marty determined to right the wrong she has done and give her children a better life. When Marty discovers the truth behind Stacey's abuse, she decides to do everything she can to help Stacey heal from her trauma. Unfortunately, in her exuberance to make up for Stacey's pain, not only does she put her daughter in another abusive situation that almost destroys her sanity, she ignores her oldest daughter, Katherine, who is following her own road to tragedy, determined to marry for money and have the luxuries she was denied as a child. Katherine discovers too late that her marriage of convenience is one of heartbreak and sorrow. She must face the reality that she loves the man she thought she only married for his money, but her realization comes with a heavy price. Stacey and Katherine journey the widening road together, each taking a difference path, yet each road leads to devastation and heartbreak. As you follow their journey, you will become a part of their story as you cheer them on towards a better life and learn the lessons along with them.
