The Bond of The Millennium: Updated Edition

Pierce Brosnan was born only thirty-three days after the first introduction of James Bond took place with the publication of Casino Royale by Ian Fleming. This is only one of the many connections the Irish star, activist, producer and painter has with the legendary British secret agent. After missing the chance in 1986 for contractual issues, in 1994 Brosnan was introduced to the world press as the fifth actor to play agent 007 in GoldenEye, the film that would not only guarantee the survival of the character in a time everyone thought he was a spent force, but would mark the beginning of an era that pitted Bond against the remnants of the Cold War and the new threats caused by the world-changing events of 9/11, right at the beginning of the 21st century.Commemorating the 70th birthday of the actor, The Bond of The Millennium has been revised, updated and expanded to give a thorough analysis at the decade of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond through four films and three original video game adventures, which revitalized the character in an era where technology, mass media communications and the internet was occupying a bigger role in our lives. This second edition features additional chapters reflecting on the missing possibilities of Brosnan playing 007 in what would have been the official adaptation of Casino Royale and determines that, after the actor’s abrupt and unexpected farewell, a bigger era in the cinematic story of 007 has been closed than the Brosnan era itself.
