Who was the best all-around band to come out of the U.K. in the 1960s? If your answer is the Kinks—respect. While others grabbed the glory, the Kinks never tried to give the masses what they wanted—the Kinks offered the music they wanted. And what they created was outstanding. From "You Really Got Me" to "Sunny Afternoon," "Waterloo Sunset" to "Lola" to "Come Dancing"—the songs are better known than the story of the band itself. Through career disruptions and troubles—some of which they brought upon themselves—the Kinks rarely wavered and certainly never compromised, which is why they are legends.
